Multiple-Employer Welfare Arrangements (MEWA).
MEWA is a type of plan, established by ERISA and regulated by the PPACA, in which two or more unrelated employers, including those who are self-employed, may establish a health benefit plan. This can be done through an insurance plan or some other type of funding. In concept, MEWAs are designed to give small employers access to low cost health coverage on terms similar to those available to large employers.
