New Activity Codes & ICD-9 Changes
Are you ready for the new Activity Codes and other ICD-9 changes effective October 1, 2009?
- Presented by Wyn Staheli, President, InstaCode Institute
Are you ready for the new Activity Codes and other
ICD-9 changes that become effective on October 1, 2009? There are 313 new
diagnosis codes, including 104 new activity codes (E codes).
The new activity codes, E001-E030, are used to indicate
the activity that caused or contributed to an injury or other health condition.
These codes are appropriate for both acute injuries, and for conditions that
are due to the long-term, cumulative effects of an activity. Also
new is category E000, External cause status. A code from this category should
be assigned whenever any other E code is assigned for an encounter, including
an Activity E code, except for certain events noted in the guidelines.
Wyn Staheli will discuss these changes and provide
guidance on how to use the new codes in your office.
