Most chiropractors do not understand why insurance companies are denying more and more of their claims each year. Many doctors incorrectly assume this is due to insurance companies tightening their purse strings. Did you know that reimbursement will continue to decrease when practices continue to use outdated technology to file insurance claims? Are you taking advantage of a free and state of the art practice management system? If you are an all cash practice, are you maximizing direct reimbursement for your patients to keep them coming back to see you? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should definitely plan on attending this upcoming webinar.

HIPAA 5010 Compliance Update
|
CMS has established a deadline that all protected health information that enters or leaves your office in electronic form (anything except when it travels by fax, phone, hand, or post) needs to be encoded using the HIPAA 5010 transmission standard after January 1, 2012. After that, as we have reported, you won’t get paid.
ChiroCode Institute recently reported that the deadline for this CMS requirement had been moved back to March 31st, 2012. It turns out that the conversion deadline is still January 1, 2012. However, CMS has moved back the date after which they will fine you for not converting to March 31, 2012.
According to our consultant Dr. Ron Short, you indeed need to make sure that you have submitted a test claim using the 5010 format and had it accepted by January 1st, 2012, or else you will not be able to submit Medicare claims directly. We apologize for our error, and wish to thank Dr. Short for setting us straight.

Medicare Revalidations Are Starting
|
Medicare carriers and MACs are starting, or will soon be starting, the revalidation process. Essentially, this is re-credentialing with Medicare. The official reason for this is to confirm the information in your file and to fight fraud, waste and abuse. The effect on you will be that 1) you are screened utilizing the screening protocols established in the Affordable Care Act, 2) your information is made current and 3) you receive all future payments through Electronic Funds Transfer. Electronic Funds Transfer poses a risk to you and your practice because it works both ways. Medicare can put money in and they can take money out. To find out how to protect yourself from this watch Ron Short's December 15 ChiroCode Webinar.

ChiroCode Institute Apology to the Washington State Chiropractic Association
|
I want to apologize for an article written on August, 3rd 2011 that painted the Washington State Chiropractic Association (WSCA) in a bad light. We also apologize for the delay in providing this apology. The article was one-sided, and did not take into account the efforts of state and national chiropractic associations. It created unneeded churn and division in the Chiropractic community, at a time when we all need to pull together. It was not good for the Chiropractic industry.
I acknowledge the hard work of those who serve in the WSCA, and all other organizations entrusted to help preserve Chiropractic from the many challenges that it faces on so many fronts. Just as the American patriots fought by uniting under a common cause, I truly believe that we all can do the same, working together to better protect our profession. We at the ChiroCode Institute resolve to better espouse the vision to collaborate with all of those fighting on all of our sides for the future of Chiropractic.
Sincerely,
LaMont J Leavitt CEO, ChiroCode Institute
